Sempermed USA, Inc. (Sempermed) has named Chief Financial Officer Brian K. Eye the second president and CEO in the company’s history. He succeeds William (Billy) E. Harris, III, who has decided to leave after an 18-year career in that role. Eye assumed his new responsibilities on August 11. He also continues as CFO of Sempermed, a leader in the disposable glove industry.
“We are indeed fortunate to have Brian Eye as our next president and CEO,” said the company’s Chairman of the Board Berthold Stoeger. “Brian has a long and distinguished career with Sempermed and is tremendously well suited to take over, hit the ground running, and expand upon our previous success in the industry.”
Eye joined Sempermed soon after it opened its doors in 1998 and has served as vice-president and CFO since that time. Earlier, he was director of finance and then vice president and CFO of medical manufacturing company Unilens Vision in Largo, Fla. He began his career in public accounting and is a licensed CPA.
Harris was named Sempermed’s first president and CEO, also in 1998. “We wish him well as he enters into a new phase of his life,” Stoeger said.
Sempermed has a well-earned reputation in the disposable glove industry for quality, delivery and customer service and that will remain the focus, Eye said. “We’ll continue to concentrate on those three areas while we look even more intensively and strategically toward future growth,” he added.
As part of that effort, Eye announced that Marc Montalto has been promoted to vice president of sales to better align the Sempermed sales force with its customers. Montalto will be responsible for overseeing all sales activities and will report to Eye. He has been director of Acute Care Sales since he joined the company in 2004. Montalto previously held management positions in Johnson & Johnson and PSS World Medical. Cheryl Abernathy, who also joined Sempermed in 2004, has been promoted to director of marketing, reporting to Eye.
“Marc has the strong leadership skills required to effectively guide our excellent sales team,” Eye said. “His primary focus will be on making the customer experience better for all those who buy our products in the highly competitive disposable glove industry. Cheryl brings a strong background in marketing and merchandising to her new position,” he added. “She’s been highly successful at Sempermed, and before that at both the Home Shopping Network and Macy’s Department Stores.”
Sempermed USA—headquartered in Clearwater, Florida—is a leading vertical manufacturer of disposable gloves for the Acute Care, Dental, Physician, and Occupational Health markets. The company is privately held, with sales and distribution operations throughout the United States and Canada.
